Meet the Area Team
Andrew was Director of Music at a Northampton church for 30 years. Formerly he was co-ordinator for the south of England, has also served with the RSCM Peterborough and Northampton Area, and for many years played the organ for the Southern Cathedral Singers. He also was an examiner for the RSCM until recently.
Andrew graduated in Music from UEA and then became assistant organist at Jesus College, Cambridge before entering the teaching profession. He took early retirement to concentrate on his passion for church music. He has tutored on and directed events for the RSCM, notably local three-day courses and examination preparation training sessions. Andrew was awarded the HonRSCM in 2016.
Revd. James Reveley
ATL and Safeguarding Co-ordinator
James has been the Canon for Congregation and Community at Ely Cathedral since August 2020. Prior to this, he served in parochial ministry for nearly twenty-five years, most of which was spent as a Vicar of churches with RSCM choirs working alongside other musicians. He oversaw the projects to install new pipe organs in two of his churches.
James has been involved in church music since his youth and studied music at Goldsmiths College, University of London, before training for ordination. Having sung in chamber choirs for many years, he is currently a member of the Ely Cathedral Octagon Singers. James had been a member of the RCSM committee in St Albans diocese and joined the Ely team shortly after his appointment at the Cathedral. His desire is to encourage the best possible music making in the churches and chapels in the villages, towns and cities of our diocese.
Revd. Paul Hutchinson
Diocesan Representative and Secretary
The Revd Paul Hutchinson came to Ely Diocese in early 2020, becoming Rector of St Neots with Eynesbury just before COVID19 hit. Before that, he lived in the North of England, and has previously been a member of the Area Committees of North & East Yorkshire, Cumbria, and Durham (where his roots are). His parishes have always included at least one RSCM affiliated choir: he sings tenor (though not as much as he did in Cambridge undergraduate days, or more recently in Cumbria), has acted as cantor and led singing in a variety of styles, and occasionally plays the organ.
I am treasurer of the RSCM Ely area. I held the position of treasurer for the previous committee for 6 years.
I am employed as a tax manager for a local firm of accountants and have been there since 1975.
I am organist and choirmaster of our local parish church and have been there since 2003. I started playing for services in 1974 in a local village church.
In my spare time I enjoy carp fishing at local venues.
Anne Parry-Smith has participated in RSCM events over several years and was previously secretary of the Ely Area Team. She started singing as an adult in 1996 when she joined the choir at Holy Trinity, Broadstairs where her husband David was organist and choirmaster. Previously, Anne had played viola in orchestras and particularly enjoyed accompanying choral works. Her career has been varied – hospital social worker, CAB volunteer and latterly administrator and secretary. Anne is Parish Administrator at St Mary’s, Linton and also Granta Deanery Secretary. When she has spare time, she is to be found tending the garden.
