‘Hear my words’ — RSCM Summer Course 2020
**Booking is now closed**
‘Hear my words’ is a great opportunity to come together virtually to learn, rehearse, record and remind ourselves of the joy of choral singing, even when we can’t meet together in person.
Over five days, singers will join a series of live webinar rehearsals, which support singers in learning ‘Hear my words, ye people’ by C H H Parry, ready to record themselves singing their part at the end of the week. The live rehearsals will be supported by further resources available through our Showbie class (if you’ve seen our classes for Bronze, Silver and Gold Award, you may be familiar with Showbie already), including scores, rehearsal tracks and other tools to support wider learning.
There will be live webinar rehearsals each morning Monday to Friday — some full rehearsals, and some for smaller groups. There are no sessions during the afternoons, so there’s time to practise on your own, or do something else entirely!
The course is open to singers aged 8–23, of all voice parts. There are three groups — Junior, Intermediate and Senior — who sing different sections of the piece. We would recommend that singers already have some confidence in reading printed music, as the virtual nature of the course requires an amount of individual learning.
The cost includes access to the live webinar rehearsals (via Zoom) and the Showbie class, with all the accompanying resources. You can purchase a hard copy of the score for a discounted price via our webshop — you will be given further details and a discount code on your confirmation email.
*You are an RSCM Member if you are an Individual or Student Member of the RSCM, or a member of an affiliated church or choir. Check with your choir trainer if you’re not sure if your church/choir is a member.
Safeguarding information and guidance for online courses will be sent to those who book on to the course, and will be available on request from 28 July. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to request a copy.

Q. I don’t live in the UK. Can I still take part?
A. Yes! All the live sessions will be recorded and uploaded into the Showbie class, so if you live in a different time zone and it’s not convenient to take part in the sessions as they happen, you can catch-up later.
Q. Does it matter if I miss a session?
A. Don’t worry if you miss a session. All the live sessions will be recorded and uploaded into the Showbie class, so you can catch-up later.
Q. What equipment do I need?
A. During the course itself, you will need a device that can access the internet — ideally a computer or tablet. It’s possible to use a phone, but you may find that everything is a bit small. If you don’t have a copy of the score, we recommend that you buy one for a discounted price from our webshop. You may wish to print out worksheets, but this isn’t essential.
To create and submit your recordings at the end of the course you will need a second device (a phone or tablet). Full instructions for making your recordings will be given at the end of the week!
Q. Which group will I be in?
A. The course is divided into three groups — Junior, Intermediate and Senior. We would recommend that those who are aged 8–12 sign-up to the Junior sessions; those aged 12–16 sign-up to the Intermediate sessions, and those aged 16+ sign-up to the Senior sessions. However, experience is just as important as age for this course, so you can choose to join a different group if it is more suitable for you.
Q. Do I have to submit recordings?
A. You don’t have to submit recordings, but it would be fantastic if everyone who took part in the course was included in the final video. If you’re struggling with some of the more tricky bits of the piece, don’t worry — why not try the final section first?
