SUNDAY 16 APRIL
THE SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER
In the Common Worship Lectionary the reading from Acts must be used as either the first or second reading. In the Revised Common Lectionary it may be used as the first reading.
COMMENT
Thomas was not present when the resurrected Christ appeared to
his fearful disciples in the locked room on Easter evening. Neither,
of course, were the first readers of this Gospel, and nor were we! John shows that this story is for everyone, whether present or not. Many of us have warmed to ‘doubting’ Thomas, who needed empirical evidence to prove that Jesus was alive before he could believe. However, he soon learnt that belief is not necessarily a consequence of seeing. Belief is, as John and the whole New Testament make plain, always the work
of the Holy Spirit.

  HYMNS AND SONGS
All shall be well! for on our Easter skies
Alleluia! Jesus is risen
Alleluia, alleluia! hearts to heaven
At the Lamb’s high feast we sing
Baptized in water, sealed by the Spirit
Breathe on me, breath of God
Christ the Lord is risen again
Come, my way, my truth, my life
Come, ye/you faithful, raise the strain
Forth in the peace of Christ
Guide me, O thou great redeemer
Hail the day that sees him rise
I believe in Jesus
*If Christ had not been raised from death
In Christ alone
Jesus is risen from the grave Jesus is risen, alleluia
Jesu(s), my Lord, my God, my all Jesus, stand among us
Jesus, these eyes have never seen Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us Like a sea without a shore
Love’s redeeming work is done My hope rests firm
Now is eternal life
Now may the peace of the Lord O/ye sons and daughters
Purify my heart
**See, what a morning, gloriously bright
Shout for joy! The Lord has let us feast Spirit of the living God
The God of Abraham praise
The strife is o’er
