10 years of youth leadership: a farewell in Chester Cathedral
After ten years of expert leadership, Adrian Lucas recently led his final Summer Residential Course as Director of the RSCM Youth Choir.
Chester Cathedral was the base for our flagship Youth Choir as they came together for their final residential course of the year. There was much vibrant and challenging music to work on, be it Anthems by Francis Poulenc or Canticles by Joseph Twist, with the RSCM Youth Choir hard at work under the directorship of Adrian Lucas and accompaniment of Daniel Cook (ARSCM).

It was a particular joy for Paul Hedley (RSCM Deputy Director) to thank Adrian, on behalf of the RSCM, for his outstanding leadership of the RSCM Youth Choir (formerly the Millennium Youth Choir) over the past ten years at a special reception after Choral Evensong. Members of the Youth Choir, alongside choir alumni who returned especially for the occasion, were also instrumental in thanking Adrian for his inspiring mentorship and direction.
The RSCM now welcomes Lucy Joy Morris as its next Youth Choir Director. We look forward to working with Lucy Joy in continuing Adrian’s legacy of developing the skills of the young people within the Youth Choir and encouraging a new generation of music leaders, as part of the RSCM’s commitment to the flourishing of church music.
The RSCM Youth Choir is an exciting chamber choir for young singers aged 16 to 23. The choir meets for short residencies, usually twice a year (Easter and summer), at least one of which is based at a UK cathedral. The choir sings music of all styles and periods, from plainchant and the music of the Renaissance masters to Herbert Howells, contemporary compositions and brand new works. The Youth Choir is always ready to welcome new singers for an audition! Find out more here.
