iMYC Application Materials
Thank you for being interested in joining iMYC.
As part of the application process, we would like to hear a short recording of you singing an extract from one of the five pieces below. These pieces have been chosen as they will be familiar to many choirs, but please let us know if they are all new to you and we will make some other suggestions. We’re not expecting you to spend loads of time learning something specially!
We have also put together some backing tracks for the five pieces here, which you are welcome to use as part of your recording. However, if someone (eg your choir trainer) is willing and able to accompany you, that’s fine too.
Finally, there are some links to carefully chosen recordings of some of the pieces on the fourth tab.

Application Downloads
1. Choose and download your extract from the five options in the next tab. Please let us know if you don’t know any of these pieces and we will help you to choose something else.
2. Decide which voice part would be best for you to sing. Ask your choir trainer for help if you’re unsure. If your voice is changing, sing whichever part is best for you at the moment — we understand that this may be different by the time the summer arrives.
3. Get practising! Have a look at the YouTube videos (recordings tab), or ask your choir trainer.
4. When you’re ready, ask someone to record you singing the extract through once.
Audio or video are both acceptable.
You can either use the backing track supplied, or ask someone to accompany you.
Using a standard smartphone will be perfectly adequate – there’s no need to source expensive equipment.
Try to keep background noise to a minimum.
Make sure you say your name clearly at the start of the recording.
5. Ask a parent/guardian to download and complete Section A of the application form, then ask your choir trainer to complete Section B. This short statement gives us an idea of your musicianship skills, particularly those we don’t test through the recording.
6. Submit your recording by following the instructions on the submissions tab. Then send the application form to us at education@rscm.com.

All you need to do is visit www.wetransfer.com, click on the blue plus sign, drag and drop your recording onto the page and add the address education@rscm.com into the box that says ‘Email to’. In the message box below, please enter the name of the applicant.
