The RSCM Carol Service was devised in 2009 by Peter Moger and Tim Ruffer, with suggestions for choir and congregational carols from The RSCM Carol Book.

In its seasonal resource book Common Worship: Times and Seasons, the Church of England offers three patterns of Christmas Carol Service, one with the nine-lesson scheme from King’s College, Cambridge, one with seven lessons and another with six. The RSCM Carol Service provides a further option to add to these established resources.
