Introducing the Revised RSCM Singing Awards
In September, we announced the launch of a revised syllabus for the 2027 Singing Awards, bringing some exciting changes for singers and choir trainers.
Among the key changes are:
A new Singing Certificate – an accessible entry-level assessment for singers taking their first steps in their chorister journey, with encouraging feedback rather than marks.
More flexibility in repertoire – the revised syllabus now allows own-choice repertoire (subject to approval), giving singers and trainers greater scope to select music that suits the individual candidate and their choir.
Changes to Choir in Context – there are some important updates to the requirements in this section which have been designed to improve accessibility for choristers.
A familiar overall structure – the Bronze, Silver, and Gold awards remain, with the revised syllabus continuing to develop vocal skills, musicianship and understanding of the wider context of church music.
To help choir trainers get to grips with the changes, we are holding an online event introducing the revised 2027 syllabus with our chief examiner, Chris Sparkhall.
