Millennium Youth Choir in Norwich Cathedral

Our Millennium Youth Choir recently returned from their Summer Residential to Norwich Cathedral. MYC participated in a busy schedule of rehearsals and performance, directed by Daniel Cook, singing three services of Choral Evensong in Norwich Cathedral accompanied by the newly restored Cathedral organ. The residential concluded with a lunchtime concert at the Octagon Unitarian Chapel in which the centrepiece was Benjamin Britten’s joyful and vibrant Rejoice in the Lamb, celebrating the beauty of creation and the exuberance of religious faith.

MYC particularly enjoyed working with Martha Littlehales, one of RSCM’s Emerging Leaders for 2024-25. As an Emerging Leader on the MYC residential, Martha was offered the opportunity to develop her choral direction skills in a real-life environment, with the support of the experienced MYC music staff. Martha commented:

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time as an Emerging Leader on the Norwich residential; it was a fascinating insight into producing excellent music-making with young singers in a very short time frame. The podium time was really valuable and, thanks to the excellent quality of the singers and interesting repertoire, allowed me to get into the music’s expression and interpretation in much greater detail. Although the rehearsal days were long and intense, the environment was very encouraging for the singers, and we all left with a real sense of achievement after the final concert; I had a fabulous time!”

The RSCM Millennium Youth Choir is a chamber choir for young singers aged 16 to 23. With a light but intense annual programme, the choir sings at cathedrals and churches across the country. Individual musical and vocal tuition is a key feature of MYC, with opportunities for the choir to record and broadcast. The choir works principally with Adrian Lucas but also relishes the opportunity to work with other leading choral musicians. MYC offers a fantastic opportunity for young singers to engage at the highest standards with an exciting range of sacred choral music in worship.
