Online Event – RSCM Singing Awards – introducing the revised 2027 syllabus

Including the new Singing Certificate

Thursday 15 October 19:00 to 20:00

Christopher Sparkhall, RSCM Chief Examiner, invites you to join him for this session, whether you are new to RSCM Singin Awards or an existing 'user'. The session will cover:

  • An outline of the changes to the RSCM Singing Awards scheme from January 2027
  • Exploring the new ‘Singing Certificate’, an entry level assessment for those starting out on their singing exam journey
  • ‘Top tips’ on how candidates can best prepare

Chris will aim to give you a full picture of what the exams entail, with a particular focus on the syllabus revisions. It will be suitable both for choir-trainers and directors, awards representatives, those preparing choristers and for adult choristers and singers themselves.

Your questions are welcome, with the aim that you will feel confident in what is required to achieve highly in an award exam and enthused to continue the awards journey, whatever stage you and your choristers may be at.

Christopher Sparkhall joined the RSCM as Chief Examiner in January 2026 and has wide experience as both an educator and examiner. A School Director of Music for 20 years, his chapel choir usually numbered over 70 members and enjoyed singing a wide range of choral music to a very high standard, whilst, as an examiner, he has not only 20 years of experience for ABRSM, but also senior examiner experience in assessment design at both GCSE and A level.
